Sonsub’s
Innovator Onboard "vessel_osv_specs.html#class240" Conquers Loop
Houston, (July 15, 2003):
During the recent wave of loop current incidents in
the Gulf of Mexico, Sonsub’s Innovator ROV systems
were the only units able to cope with the 3.5+ knot
conditions.
Innovator 8 onboard the Discovery
Spirit was able to continue operations for its client
through the peak of the loop currents while making
an extended dive to recover the BOP. Additionally,
Innovator 9 working onboard the HOS
Innovator was called to the Mad Dog field to install
an emergency plug on the Diamond Ocean Confidence.
This required the vehicle to work in the worst currents
close to the surface before returning to MC 778 to
provide well monitoring ops for another drilling rig.
Although other operators had equipment
at both locations, Sonsub is proud that only the Innovator
ROVs were able to dive and carry out the work in the
extreme current conditions.
